What You Need
Wire keycap puller (strongly recommended over plastic ring pullers, less scratch risk) Optional: photograph of the current layout for reference
Step 1: Remove the Old Keycaps
Using the wire keycap puller, hook the wires under opposite edges of the keycap.
Pull straight up with even pressure on both sides.
The keycap releases from the switch stem with a clean pop.
Start with smaller keys (letters, numbers) before attempting large keys (space bar, enter, shift).
Large keys have stabilizers that require more care.
Step 2: Removing Large Stabilized Keys
Spacebar, left shift, enter, backspace, and numpad 0 are stabilized, they have a wire stabilizer that keeps both ends of the key aligned.
Use the keycap puller on the center of the key (over the ma in switch stem) Pull straight up, the stabilizer wire pulls out of its sockets as the keycap releases Note the position and orientation of the stabilizer wire before installing the new keycap
Step 3: Install the New Keycaps
Press each keycap straight down onto the switch stem until it clicks.
Ensure the keycap is oriented correctly, the legend should face the correct direction for the row.
For stabilized keys: seat the keycap onto the ma in switch stem first, then press down on the stabilizer ends until the wire snaps into the stabilizer sockets.
The key should depress and return smoothly with no binding.
Step 4: Check Every Key
Press every key to confirm it registers.
A keycap that is not fully seated produces no keystroke because the switch stem is not fully depressed.

FAQ
Common questions
Can I remove keycaps without a keycap puller?
Yes, but with higher risk of damage. Use a flat implement (spudger, flat-head screwdriver with tape on the tip) to pry the keycap up from two sides simultaneously. Pulling from one side puts uneven force on the stem and can break the stem or scratch the keycap surface.
Why won't my keycap come off?
Keycaps that won't pull off are either: stuck due to debris in the switch stem socket, using a different stem type than expected (some gaming keyboards use non-standard stems that require more force), or are screwed down (rare, but some stabilizer-mounted large keys have a secondary lock). Use even upward force from a wire keycap puller, do not pry from one side.
How do I know which keycap goes w here when reinstalling?
Before removing any keycaps, photograph the keyboard layout. Alternatively, remove and reinstall one row at a time so the reference is always visible. Keycap sets include a legend that shows which key goes in which row position, check the included sheet or the product photos for the correct layout.
